At the moment we have two youth cells, two youth cafe's and a drop-in, in the deanery. We are praying for more and are sure that God has great plans for us and that we are going to thrive!
keep your eyes open on this page for more Cells starting. In the meantime check out what is happening at the cells that are already running by clicking the links below.
Remember, if you feel God is calling you into this area of ministry, please get in touch. We would be delighted to hear from you!
Amplify is a Friday Night youth drop in project aimed at year 7-11.
Currently, we operate every other Friday directly after school (3.30-6pm) and then in the evening (7-9pm).
We offer Playstation, Xbox and Switch games on TV and giant screen, table top games, crafts and competitions. In the afternoon, we offer hot food to everyone free of charge, alongside a tuck shop.
Amplify is open to any child in any secondary school, and is free to every child.
We are grateful to Cumbria Youth Alliance and Cumbria County Council as well as Kings Church Cockermouth for our funding.
JUMP is the Cockermouth Area Team Christian youth group and everyone in year 7 and above is welcome!
JUMP is an acronym for Jesus Use My Potential.
We meet once a fortnight during term time at Christ Church Rooms from 7.30 pm to 9 pm on Sundays.
Everyone from year 7 upwards welcome.
Lorton Valley Youth Cafe members number about 15 regulars and they have requested 2 meetings per month now! We will spend the other meeting at Yew Tree Hall in Lorton Village to play table tennis and other games. Melbreak Communities have given us a grant to purchase a tabletop football game and Lorton PCC have given a grant to buy chairs, a table, a gym mat and some small items.
We don’t charge subs for the church but we will have to when we attend Yew Tree Hall to cover the rent. We have 4 leaders to help and 1 other who is coming on board to give table tennis lessons. We have planned a varied programme for 2016 including 1 camp, 1 sleepover and a day trip to a farm park. The young people are helping with the Christmas Fair soon and also taking part in a few Christmas services. 3 members have decided to be confirmed next October and we do hope for more as the group grows.
There is always a reflection at the end of every Youth Cafe and the young people are very enthusiastic about this.
Meeting every last Saturday in the month, Bridekirk Youth Cafe has become famous for its free luxury hot chocolates and tray bakes!
With 20-30 young people coming along every month, we enjoy great banter, table football, PS4 gaming, darts, jenga, nail painting and just for fun, we sometimes throw in the odd crazy team game!
In the summer we sometimes head outside to play rounders followed by some much deserved toasted marshmallows.
We love creating a safe place for our young people to hang out - year six and up are welcome. Entry is free, hot chocolate and juice are free, tray bakes are free. So you don’t need to bring any money at all but there is a small tuck shop in case none of that takes your fancy!
Tygers meet on Sunday evenings, 7-8.30pm, in people’s homes. We usually begin with snacks, fun activities and games and then reflect on a theme. Themes have included amongst others: being unique, friendship, Advent, hope. We have had quizes, and watched films and discussed them.
We usually end our sessions with a time of quiet prayer. Every year we have had a Saturday away, either at St John's in the Vale Youth Centre, or Borrowdale Youth Hostel, where we have reflected on a theme through a variety of activities and media as well as had lots of fun! We have then presented that to the church on the Sunday. The group currently consists of 8 members between 11-17. Two of our members recently left to go to university.
